There are horses we sell every day, and then there are horses like “Zippo’s Poker”…the kind that have spent a lifetime earning someone’s trust and simply do not come on the market very often.  Poker is the perfect age for the beginner, casual rider, busy working professional, or family looking for a seasoned horse they can simply enjoy.  Standing 16.1 hands and weighing every bit of 1,300+ pounds, he is a big, stout-boned, correctly built gelding with enough substance to comfortably accommodate riders of virtually any size, including taller and heavier riders.  Despite his size, he is uncomplicated, comfortable and exceptionally easy to ride.  What makes Poker particularly special is his history.  He was purchased directly from his breeder and spent virtually his entire life with one owner/rider and trainer.  He was a beloved customer’s daughter’s personal horse and carried her through her school years, high school, and college and was primarily maintained from home by a youth - but was also under a high quality trainer and is exceptionally well trained.  He isn’t being sold because he failed at a job or bounced from home to home…his girl simply grew up and is now starting a young family.  Poker has been loved, maintained and known throughout his life, and that history shows in the horse he is today.  He is extremely well trained with three wonderful, smooth gaits and a fantastic ability to adjust to the rider on his back.  Put a less experienced rider aboard and he will happily slow down and take care of them; put a more experienced rider on him and there is plenty of education and advanced buttons there to enjoy.  He has become an absolute favorite in our small lesson program this year, and has been a wonderful confidence builder for our riders.  Poker is genuinely versatile.  He rides beautifully both English and Western and could easily step into Western dressage, lower-level dressage, Pony Club, local hunter/jumper shows, lower-level eventing or an all-around 4-H show program. He has the training and temperament to show in halter, showmanship, horsemanship, trail, hunter under saddle, English pleasure, hunter hack, Western pleasure, and Western horsemanship.  Or forget showing altogether and simply enjoy having an exceptionally nice horse to ride - outside the arena, he is just as enjoyable.  Poker is exceptional in town and on the trail and rides out alone or in a group equally well.  He is the kind you can turn out for months, go catch, hop on bareback and ride through the pond.  At the same time, you can load him up and head to a lesson, clinic, or local show and have a horse you can be proud to unload.  Poker has been exceptionally healthy and sound, low-maintenance and easy to keep.  He is equally content living outside or being kept in the barn and has no vices or bad habits.  He is simply an easy horse to own and enjoy.  We have absolutely adored having Poker in our program, and we will genuinely be sad to see him leave.  He has already spent years taking care of one young woman, and we believe he has a tremendous amount left to offer his next rider or family.  For someone wanting size, substance, training, versatility, confidence and a known history without stepping into an astronomical price bracket, there is a whole lot of value in this guy.  Poker is the kind of horse you buy to enjoy…not a project you buy hoping he eventually becomes a good one.  Please don’t hesitate to call us with questions or come meet him in person.
